In gymnastics, when we refer to grips, it’s those leather things with Velcro fasteners that make it easier to hold on to the bar when you’re doing mad gymnastics skills (see featured photo above). If you are new to gymnastics, you probably won’t need grips because you won’t be doing those mad gymnastics skills for a while. Having grips by no means means that you won’t ever get blisters on your hands.
If you have been doing gymnastics for a while and want to do more advanced skills on bars or rings, at some point it will be necessary to get grips through. If you are planning on buying grips, probably ask someone who has been using theirs for a while for tips on which one you should get.
